What’s up Goal Crushers

I was once told that  finding great weight loss blogs were like finding three needles in a hay stack. That’s because words like “weight loss,” “lose weight,” and “weight loss journey” has become  the new buzz word for marketers to push their products down your throat.  I decided remedy the task of looking for needles in the proverbial haystack and introduce you to some great bloggers in the weight loss/ healthy living niche.  My aim is to spotlight great bloggers who are inspirational, motivational, and informational. Furthermore,  I want to give you a taste of who the blogger is and what they stand for…. In today’s blogger spotlight, I would like to introduce to you, Katrina Pilkington from KatrinaElle.com

Katrina, tell us a little about yourself?

I was once a couch potato and sedentary human being who yo-yo dieted trying to get thin and be happy. It took hard work and focus and KNOWLEDGE but I’m not a fitness coach, personal trainer, group fitness instructor living in the Tampa Bay area in Florida with my husband and pug! I love to run and workout and live life by experiencing and doing all that I can – I have been dubbed the ultimate busy body lol.

What moment or event started your weight loss journey?

I started a long time around and have yo-yoed all my life around 2007 is when I began to run. In 2010 I knew I had to make a life change that included healthy habits and taking more time to do hard work rather than look for a quick fix. That’s when I started doing the Insanity program and fell in love with the results and the effort I had to make to get my results – I was doing movements that athletes do instead of doing just what I was comfortable with. All my life I was not active but I knew I had to change to live life happier and healthier.

Realize The Power of One!

-Katrina Elle

What was your starting weight? What weight are you at now?

I started (and went up and down) around 155+ and got down to around 112 but not in a healthy way. I’m not at a healthy 121 or so and focus more on the inches I lose and tone I feel rather than how much I weigh.

What would you say is the most important factor in your weight loss? Changed eating habits? Exercise? Changed thinking? Something else?

BOTH Nutrition and Fitness are key to lasting weight loss and heath!

Fitness

What is your current fitness or exercise goal?

I want to focus more on my strength right now and get leaner.

Are there any obstacles you had to overcome to begin exercising / keep exercising?

I do have allergen-induced asthma that makes things challenging, but never impossible.

How do you deal with boredom in your exercise/running program?

I have workout A.D.D.! I have 6+ workout programs at home and always use what I learned as a CPT to change up workouts.

Food

Describe the diet or healthy eating plan you’re following.

I don’t deprive myself of anything I really want, but watch artificial sugars and sweets because those are a culprit for distaster for me. I stick to lots of veggies and natural foods that are nutrient-rich and keep me full.

What is one cardinal rule of nutrition you have learned that you always follow or never break?

Never cheat all of the but never cheat none of the time either.

What about supplements? Which if any supplements do you add to your diet?

Aminos for post-workout muscle recovery, Shakeology as a whole-food superfood source.

Is eating healthy expensive for you? How much do you spend on food in a given week / month?

We spend about $400 a month on our food a month I’d say. We also don’t spend money on expensive medicines though and have no huge health issues caused from diet – eating better now and paying for it now will pay dividends in the future.

Blogging

How did you first become interested in blogging and can you tell us a little bit about your blog?

A month after we got married in June 2012 I needed a new hobby to be addicted to, so I started the blog to hold me accountable for my fitness goals.

What can a new visitor expect to find from your blog?

Me sharing healthy tips and workouts and recipes, sharing my story and lessons learned from it, as well as travel stories and tips.

What are your top 5 favorite weight loss/fitness blogs?

(I usually don’t have a top 5, I read too many!)

Inspiration

Do you have any favorite sayings, quotes, or mantra that inspires you to be better, train harder or be more diligent with your eating?

Nothing easy ever got me anywhere.

Share a song that gets you fired up for your workouts/run.

Rage the Night Away – Waka Flocka Flame

If you were to give advice to anyone considering starting a weight loss journey, what would you say?

Realize The Power of ONE – one goal at a time, one step at a time, one change at a time…little things add up and cause lasting success.

Gear

What shoes are you currently working out/ running in?

Reebok Nanos for cross training and Brooks Pure Cadence 2 for running.

What is your favorite piece of workout/ running gear?

Easy my Sparkly Soul headbands. Not only are they adorable and sparkly, but they don’t budge. I’ve worn them through marathons, triathlons, mud runs and all without them ever slipping.

Name one product that changed the game for you in your journey and why?

My shoes! They make ALL of the difference!

Do you use a fitness tracker? If so which one do you use?

I did but not anymore. They don’t last with lots of sweat and I know I’m getting 10k steps a day after using one for more than a year. I became too OCD with the app 😉

Could you suggest a book that has been helpful for you throughout your journey?

I read lots of development books but none on the weight loss journey. I know that The Compound Effect was great for all around goals focus.

Closing Remarks

What is one parting piece of advice you’d like to with the goal crushers?

Take your time and be patient with yourself!
