There are elements of running that can be directly applied to your everyday life. For example, take running up a very steep hill. Whether you a newbie, novice, or expert running up a hill can be very difficult and depending on the where you’re at during your run, a hill could suck the life out you.  I know from personally experience a hill could make you say to the hell with this run. The same can be said about life… You may be unemployed and can’t find a job, employed and hate everything about the job, or working multiple jobs, and can’t seem to make ends meet. Whatever your situation may be, you feel like you are running up very steep hill. Today, I’m going to give you a tip that can help you overcome hills during your run and in life.

When many people see a hill, their attitude changes and they mumble to themselves, God! I hate hills. Then they stop running and begin walking. Now all of their momentum gone and the pain of walking up the hill become unbearable. Making them want to quit running and give up. If really, want to overcome this hill, first you need to change your thinking about running hills… Yes, we all know hills are hard and we hate them (and I hate them too) but if you keep declaring you hate hills every time you see them, you will always have a negative connotation to them. Instead of declaring how much you hate hills, repeat to yourself “I love hills and the challenges it bring.”  Yeah this statement might not be true, but if you say it to yourself long enough, you will stop having a negative response towards hills and just maybe that statement will become true. This is what I call fake it til you make it. In life, there are going some things that you’re going to hate doing but you have to do them anyway. You know what I’m talking about… That thing that’s on the do list or an assignment at work (for me it’s transcribing focus groups and patient interviews).  If fake like you like it, your face won’t be all scrunched up and your boss will actually think you like your job. If you fake it long enough,  eventually task will not be that bad.

Well, goal crushers there you have it…I hope this tip can as usually to you as has been for me. Sometimes in life and running, you have to “fake it,” like you really enjoy something even though you don’t. When I started running, I hated it but I knew if I told everybody that I loved it, I eventually would have the same feelings that I portrayed. Let me be the example of it working.
