welcome 300 Pounds and Running

Martinus Evans, a fat man running and author of 300 Pounds and Running Podcast

300 POUNDS AND RUNNING is a personal blog created by me, Martinus Evans. I am a straight no-chaser type of guy, who is on a journey for better health and better self. Furthermore, I’m  passionate about helping people be the best that they can be.

I do not like to think of 300 Pound and Running as a weight loss blog, running blog or health lifestyle blog, but rather a self-improvement blog because believe it or not, a weight loss journey has more to do about overcoming psychological barriers and dealing with traumas than it does about losing a few pounds.

Besides my journey for better health and better self, my overarching goal for this blog is to INSPIRE & CHALLENGE you to expand your comfort zone,  to MOTIVATE you during your times of need, and to help you to CHANGE YOUR THINKING about losing weight and put the focus where it belongs, overall health

Some of the topics that I will covered on 300 Pounds and Running.com will include, but not limited to weight loss, running, CrossFit, getting healthy, recipes, meal plans, positive thinking, over coming barriers, self-love, forgiveness, chasing values, crushing goals, and the occasional rambling and rant…

How 300 Pounds and Running Started

In July 2012, I weighed approximately 360-370 lbs (I don’t know the exact weight because all the scales I encountered stop working at 350 lbs.). One day I walked into work and felt a sharp pain in my hip (the pain literally brought tears to my eyes). I went to my primary care doctor and he recommended that I go to physical therapy. After 20 or so weeks of therapy the pain was still there.

So I went to an orthopedic specialist and he said to me, “I know why you’re in pain.” I asked why and he said, “Mr. Evans, it’s because you’re fat and you need to start walking and losing weight.” Feeling angry and embarrassed that the doctor called me “Fat”, I responded, “Screw walking, I’ll run a marathon.” I left the doctor’s office, bought some running shoe and created this blog. The name 300 Pounds and Running was inspired by a NWA song, titled 100 Miles and Running. The initial goal of this blog was to document my journey to eating right, losing weight, and running a marathon. Since inception of this blog, I have lose over 80 lbs and ran my first marathon in my hometown of Detroit, MI.

300 Pounds and Running creed

Martinus Evans, a fat man running and author of 300 Pounds and Running Podcast

At 300 Pounds and Running.com, we value consistency, courage, determination, dedication, positivity and perseverance. We understand that if we want to be better than who we are now, we must do the work.

We don’t do diets! Diets are temporary, they do not breed long-term success.

We respect the process! It did not take us a month to gain this weight and it most certainly will not take a month to lose it.

We don’t use excuses! Excuses are tools of the incompetent used to build bridges to nowhere, those use them become monuments of nothingness and seldom do or become anything and I know you’re better than that.

We aim for progress, not perfection! Perfection is for magazines and Disney movies, where everyone is computer altered and live happily ever after. Instead, we strive to go further than we did yesterday, knowing that consistency is the only way to crush our goals!

We love ourselves unconditionally! We leave the hating to the haters, because they are our biggest motivators.

We are honest to ourselves! Loving ourselves means being truthful and honest to ourselves no matter what.

We forgive ourselves and others! When we are honest to ourselves, we find that sometimes the truth hurts and we must forgive ourselves and others for the wrongdoings done upon us. Forgiveness is the rebirth of hope, the reorganization of thought, and the reconstruction of dreams. It is truly the only way to move on to greatness within you.

Lastly, we Chase Values and Crush Goals…We let our values about life and fitness be the driving force and compass to our journey and we crush goals along the way to reaching our values.
