Electric Run Hartford Recap

This past Saturday I ran/walked, but mostly walked the Electric Run, a 5K that you run at night and it has music playing and all types of flashing lights throughout the course.

This would be a good time to disclose: the Electric Run offered me two free entries, one for me and one for my girlfriend, and a discount code to share with the public in return for helping to promote their race.  All opinions expressed are my own.

I decide to do the Electric Run as something that would help me get out of this training slump that I am going through. I made a conscious decision not to wear head phones nor track the run on my Nike Plus or Run Keeper; I would only use my phone to take pictures.

In addition to all that good stuff, I convinced my girlfriend to walk the race.  At first she encouraged me to run the race and wait for her at the finish line but instead I decided to walk the race with her. I am very happy that she taking steps to get active and I’m grateful to be by her side while she do it.

The race itself was very interesting sight to see, especially the fact of running in complete darkness… Looking at the promo videos on YouTube it portrays that it would have all types of black lights and such but I felt like there wasn’t enough.

Call me a running snob for this one but I only use to running on pavement and blazed trails.  So to see that the course was 90% grass and gravel and it abruptly switched from each other randomly, I really didn’t like that at all… One of the reasons that I wished it was more lights.

Overall the race environment was fun and live. I would run the race again if it was on one type of surface preferable pavement. However with the caveat mention above I wouldn’t recommend this race for first time 5Ker’s because the environment might be just a little overwhelming and might turn them off to running altogether.  However if you have a few races under your belt I would recommend that you go for it! That’s all I got for the Electric Run Hartford. I leave you with pictures of the race.
