Shoes are the most important equipment that you need when running… Hell when doing anything for that matter cause an ill-fitting shoe can and will ruin your day; it definitely ruins your run. Another thing that can ruin your run is cold wet shoes…I would say having cold wet shoes is up there with ill-fitting shoes. I know firsthand because the other day I went for a run in my Nike Flyknits, it wasn’t snow on the ground but it was wet and I messed around and stepped in a puddle. If you don’t know what Nike Flyknits are; they are the super light shoes that are woven together their claim to fame was being the 2012 Olympic podium shoe. Anyway they are woven together leaving me feet cold and wet. This experience leads me to think I need some type of winter running shoe. Then I pose the question: Do they even make a winter running shoe or am I just making this up? So I asked the nice folks @NikeRunning what do they have to solve my problem…They gave me a couple of options.

Now it’s time to go to the store and check them out. This will be a journey in its self because I wear a size 14 and they are scarce mainly because most companies send the stores one size 14 at a time and I’m not the special order type of guy; when I say I’m going shoe shopping I’m coming home with shoes! I ended up going to 4 stores and I must say that I’m never shopping at Footlocker, Champs or Foot Action ever again. I went in these stores, wondered around with shoes in my hand, ready to spend some my hard earn cash and nobody greeted me. I worked on commission before I would have been an easy sale all they had to do is say hello but they didn’t… Anyways I am done ranting. I end up at Dick’s Sporting Goods. They only had one shoe in the Hypershield collection in my size. They were the Nike Air Pegasus 29 Shield.

Trying them on my initial thought was they felt like my Nike Vomero 7’s. This is a good thing because they are currently my favorite running shoes. Compared side by side the sole and the cushion looks and feel the same.

Nike Air Pegasus 29 Shield versus Vomero 7

The only difference is that the Nike Air Pegasus 29 Shield has more of an aggressive sole than my Nike Vomero 7’s, the better to run in light snow or ice (I hope). The Nike Air Pegasus 29 Shield is also water-resistant, hopefully answering my prayers of not have cold wet feet while running. I’m very curious to see if these shoes will solve my problem, but only time will tell. I must say though Nike usually doesn’t let me down when it comes to running shoes so I know the comfort part is guaranteed. However I’m looking for mainly function in this shoe… I will see when I run in them when it’s wet outside and follow-up in a couple of weeks to give my complete review on these puppies.
