Saucony Virrata Review

When I first received these shoes I was very skeptical. I must admit it’s because I’m a Nike fan boy, every pair of shoes I have own has been Nike. So when I initially tried on the Saucony Virrata I really wasn’t that enthusiastic. At first they felt funny on my feet but I decide to give the a fair shot, so after running in them for 50 more or miles here are my thoughts.

Saucony Virrata review

The Saucony Virrata has a “zero drop”, which makes this technically a minimalist shoe. I find this odd because when I think of a minimalist shoe I think no cushion however the Saucony Virrata has lots of cushion. The best way to describe what the Saucony Virrata is like is to imagine that a neutral running shoe and a minimalist shoe had a baby; viola! You have the Saucony Virrata. Now back to the review… Initially it took me a while to get use to these shoes. I pretty much had to change my stride and start landing towards my forefoot in order for them to feel comfortable. But once I got that done it was smooth sailing. The Saucony Virrata is very lightweight and they feel durable. The ride felt decent up to the 5 mile mark. Anything after 5 miles in these shoes my heels would start to hurt something that has never happen in my Nikes. I would consider this shoe for runs up to 5 miles which is a distance that I run the most.

I would recommend these shoes to anyone would like to try a minimalist running shoe before really going all the way minimalist. Also to anyone who’s working their way up to a 10k but any distance after that you might want to look for an another shoe as it gave my problems for the longer distances, but that’s just my two pennies. If you have any experience with Saucony Virrata, be sure to leave your thoughts below.
