Motivation Monday: Moving Forward

Motivation Monday

“The truth is, unless you let go, unless you forgive yourself, unless you forgive the situation, unless you realize that the situation is over, you cannot move forward.”
― Steve Maraboli

Car accident

[dropcap]L[/dropcap]ast Wednesday I had a car accident… I walked away from the accident shooked-up with minor injuries. It’s really a blessing because it could have been worst. Since the accident I’ve been sulking, popping my pain meds, muscle relaxers and feeling sorry for myself. Some may even say that I’ve become distant…

I’m not distant… I’m just hungry…I want cake! I want cookies! I want ice cream! To be honest I hate this feeling… This feeling of being broken… This feeling of emptiness. I had cake and I didn’t feel better. I had cookies and I didn’t feel better. I haven’t had ice cream but an educated guess tells me that it won’t make me feel better either… I guess it’s safe to say that eating is not helping me move on. So what am I going to do about it?

Like the quote above. First I’m going forgive myself for feeling this way…This is normal… It’s OK to feel sad…However it’s not Ok to try to eat the sadness away. Secondly I’m going to forgive the situation…Accidents happen, it could happen to anyone, anywhere… Wednesday was just my time. Third, this is me realizing that the accident happen almost a week ago and it is over… It’s time to begin the healing process… It’s time to move forward.

Happy Monday!

Motivation Monday/Fight for Air Climb

Fight for Air Climb New Haven

Don’t fear failure so much that you refuse to try new things. The saddest summary of a life contains three descriptions: could have, might have, and should have. -Louis E. Boone

What’s up goal crushers! While reading this quote I thought about my childhood. One particular conversation with my best friend’s grandfather Hayes. I was leaving to go to Tennessee for college. I remember telling Hayes that I was afraid of what may come, when I leave Detroit. This was my first time out of the city and I didn’t know anyone in Tennessee. Hayes told me, “Marty never let your fear stop you from progressing… Look around you at the people on this block… All of these dreams deferred… A lot of them are should of, could of, and would ofs. Don’t like be them Marty! You’re bigger than that…”

Hayes was right I am bigger than that… What a life lesson to learn?  As I progress through this journey, I pride myself on my fearlessness. Trying new things and living through different experiences keep me going.

My next event is no different… I’m going to run a vertical marathon on February 8, 2014. I will be participating in the American Lung Association’s Fight for Air Climb. The reasons that I decided to do the Fight for Air Climb: Was to challenge myself to keep things new and spicy. I think climbing 400 – 500 stairs sounds Mucho Caliente! Also looking at the stats of lung cancer/disease is alarming… Why not use my voice to help the cause in any way, form, shape or fashion?

Here are some stats on lung disease:

  • Lung cancer is the #1 cancer killer in America. One in five people diagnosed this year have never smoked a day in their life.
  • Lung cancer overtook breast cancer as the leading cause of cancer death among women in the United States in 1987 and now claims the lives of more women each year than breast, ovarian and cervical cancers combined,
  • 159,480 people will die from lung cancer this year, that’s 433 people per day.

Now I need your help please donate to help me reach my goal of $250. No donations too small and everything is tax-deductible. If you are in the New Haven area I challenge you to join me on the climb. I guarantee that it will be tons of fun.

Until next time I’m 300 Pounds and Running.

Affirmation Monday #2

Affirmation Monday

What’s up goal crushers? Every other Monday I post 5-7 affirmations.  These affirmations are to be said to yourself AT LEAST THREE times a day, but you could say them more than that if you want or need to and AT LEAST ONE of those times should be in the mirror and out loud.  I will be doing mine in the morning the second I wake up, during lunch time, and before I go to sleep. They key to affirmations to be bold, confident, and believe what you saying is true and your mind will do the rest. Check out the last Affirmation Monday!

Here are the affirmations for the next two weeks:

  • I lose weight systematically and I keep it off permanently
  • I do everything I need to do to achieve my healthy weight
  • I am aware of my eating habits and how they affect my weight
  • I have non-stop daily determination to reach my healthy weight
  • All my attitudes are positive now

Motivation/ Affirmation Monday

Affirmation Monday

This weight loss journey is just as much mental as it is physical. How many times have you heard someone say or you’ve said yourself, “If I only could lose weight” or “My life would be easier if I was thinner.”  New Flash! Folks it’s only going to get harder once you lose that weight. You think people are teasing you now; wait until you have loss a considerable amount of weight. Then you will hear, “Why you losing all that weight?” “You think you better than everyone since you lost weight?” How about, “I liked you better when you were fat!” So what your point Martinus? My point is losing weight is not the end all be all. If you got plastic surgery or took a pill to make you at a healthy weight overnight and not change you thinking, I guarantee you will be back where you started.

Lately I’ve been brainstorming some ways to help change my thinking/mindset while I’m changing my body. I thought bi-weekly affirmations would do the job; they are short, sweet, and straight to the point.  If done right and on a consistent basis, affirmations really could cultivate change in your thinking/mindset. So here’s how it’s going to work; every other Monday I will post 5-7 affirmations.  These affirmations are to be said to yourself ATLEAST THREE times a day, but you could say them more than that if you want or need to and ATLEAST ONE of those times should be in the mirror and out loud.  I will be doing mine in the morning the second I wake up, during lunch time, and before I go to sleep. They key to affirmations to be bold, confident, and believe what you saying is true and your mind will do the rest.

So without further ado, here are the affirmations for the next two weeks:

  • I forgive myself for all of my past mistakes.
  • I strive to improve myself and the people around me.
  • I achieve my weight loss and fitness goals.
  • I think before I eat.
  • I am motivated by both my successes and failures.

Still not motivated? Well check out my first YouTube video and see if that helps. Don’t forget to share it with your friends and family.

Now it’s your turn…What you do think of bi-weekly affirmations? What are ways that have helped you changed your thinking/mindset?
