Transcript

What’s up, this is Martinus Evans from 300PoundsAndRunning.com. Welcome to session number one.

Welcome to the 300 Pounds and Running podcast. The show that pushes you to chase your values and crush your goals. And now, your host, Martinus Evans.

What’s up, goal crushers, and welcome to the very first session of the 300 Pounds and Running podcast. This has been a very long time coming. Yes!! I’ve been wanting to start a podcast for a very long time and after a year of so of planning, recording and feeling like what’s the point, nobody’s going to listen to this podcast anyway, I just woke up one day and said, “It’s time to put this thing out to the world.” I just want to thank everyone who’s listening to this podcast. It really means a lot to me because it is a dream come true. Today’s session is going to be bit different from the norm. I’m going to go over the quick introduction of who I am, and introduction of 300 Pounds and Running and how I got into running.

About Martinus and the creation 300 Pounds and Running

If you haven’t heard of me before, my name is Martinus Evans. I have a blog called 300 Pounds and Running. I’m a man who wears many hats. I’m an author. I’m a speaker, researcher. I have a bachelors in health fitness, a masters in health promotion. I’m an RRCA run coach. I’m a marathoner. And I weigh over 300 pounds. How did I get into running? Well in 2012, I weighed approximately 370 to about 380 pounds. Truthfully, I don’t know exactly how much I weighed because all the scales I encountered stopped working at 350 pounds. One day I walk into my work and I felt a sharp pain in my hip. I went to the doctor and he told me to go physical therapy. After 20 weeks of physical therapy, I found myself in a orthopedic specialist office and he says to me, “Mr. Evans, I know why you’re in pain.” I said, “What’s going on, doc?” He tells me, “It’s because you’re fat.”

Yes. This doctor told me this. I’m 6’2″, 370, 380 pounds and this doctor is about 5’5″, 125 pounds soaking wet. I’m looking at him like, “Don’t you know I can crush you?” I looked at the doctor and sarcastically I said, “Doc, I’m going to run a marathon.” And he was like, “That’s the most stupidest thing I ever heard.” Furious and frustrated, I stormed out the doctor’s office. On my way home, I bought some running shoes and I started this blog.

The initial goal of this blog was to document my journey on to eating right, losing weight and running a marathon, but since then has evolved into a place of motivation, inspiration, and information for other larger and slow runners like myself. That’s a little bit about me and the blog. I urge you to head over to 300PoundsAndRunning.com to check it out. I got a lot of good information over there on the site. While you’re there, you should sign up to receive my free e-book. It’s called “Zero to Running.” It’s my way to pay it forward to the next big guy or girl who wants to start running but don’t know where to begin. I took all of my experiences from weighing nearly 400 pounds to running a marathon and everything in between. I received a lot of positive feedback from it, so definitely check it out.

Format of the 300 Pounds and Running Podcast

Let’s talk about the format of the show. Like I said earlier, this recording is a little special, because this is our first time together y’all, but normally the episodes will be about 30 minutes in length. Mostly I will be interviewing a variety of runners but mainly from the back of the pack. These are not your average runners. Like myself, they are larger, slower and heck, they might even finish the race last. But when it’s all said and done, they finish it, and that’s what’s important. These people have amazing stories. It’s my hope that these stories will inspire someone else to get off the coach and give running a try. Other times, it would just be me on the mic. Like today, I’ll be dropping some knowledge on you on running, healthy living, motivation, etc. For those of you who follow me on blog, you know how I get down. I’m all about providing that inspiration, that motivation and information. That’s what I have in mind for the show.

Final thought

Before I let you, I want to leave you with something. And that’s to not be afraid to fail. This podcast was supposed to come out earlier this year. However, one of the things that stopped me was the fear of failure. I didn’t know if anyone would be interested to hear what I had to say. I’m not an elite runner. I’m just a fat guy who’s trying to get healthy, and while I’m doing that, I’m hoping to help someone else along the way. However, I know the best success comes when you take chances and step out of your comfort zone. That’s what I’m doing with this podcast. I’m doing it afraid. There will be some mistakes. It probably won’t be perfect, but I’m ready to embrace whatever comes my way, because I stepped out of my comfort zone. So for those of you who are out there who’s afraid to fail, I’m here to tell you that that’s perfectly normal, y’all. I urge you to do it afraid anyway. Do your best. Learn from your mistakes because that’s what I’m going to be doing with this podcast.

All right, y’all. I’m not going to hold much of your time. I want to say thank you again for listening to the very first session of 300 Pounds and Running podcast. Look forward to hearing from you next time. As always, check me out on 300 Pounds and Running. Leave a comment. I’m approachable. Leave a comment. Shoot me an email [email protected]. I’ll be sure to get back with you. Until next time, I’ll holler at you guys later. Don’t be afraid to fail and if you are, do it afraid anyway. Peace.
