Wind and water blocked!

Face it you can’t run in the winter without outer wear. Having some type of wind/water blocking/ resisting gear is a must. This year I picked up two running jackets on Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales.  One is the Nike Elements Shield Max and the other the New Balance wind blocker ½ zip jacket. Both jackets are great! They keep me nice and warm during my runs.  I usually wear the New Balance jacket when there is no rain, snow or wetness outside (dry cold) and I wear the Nike jacket when there are wet conditions outside because it has a hood. If you like a review on either of these coast just let me know and I’ll write something.

Don’t get bit by frost bite!

This one is self-explanatory…  Combat frost bite by protecting your fingers and toes. My personal favorites are gloves from Pearl Izumi and winter running socks from Drymax.

It must be the shoes!

Imagine you’re running… Music blasting and your stride is just right. Then you step in a puddle deeper than you thought. What do you do? Do you stop running and go home?  Do you keep going and risk getting frost bite? Well I stop running because it was around 10°F and windy. After that situation, I went online to find some water-resistant shoes. I found the Nike Pegasus 29 Shield, this is my second year running in these shoes and I love them. They are water-resistant, highly reflective for nighttime running, and overall just a very comfortable shoe. Check out my initial thoughts of the Nike Pegasus 29.

Well there you have it my five winter running essentials. Now it’s your turn! What items would you add to this list?
