Happy Motivational Monday! Today’s quote is

Don’t dwell on what went wrong. Instead, focus on what to do next. Spend your energies on moving forward toward finding the answer.”

Denis Waitley

Last week I went to the orthopedic specialist to receive an evaluation on my shoulder injury from car accident last January. This consists the orthopedic specialist poking and prodding around my shoulder and asking me, “Does this hurt?” Which answer most of the time was yes! Additionally, he tested my strength and range of motion. After that, he asked me a couple of questions about my daily activities and how the injury was affecting them…

What I got from the appointment is that there have not been any improvements or decline in my injury since the last appointment in July 2014 and the pain and weakness in my shoulder may be the new normal (That sucks balls!). He said I could continue to get cortisone shots (which I don’t like doing, because it’s only masking the pain and not getting to the root of the issue) or that I may need to get my shoulder scoped to find out what’s going on with it in the near future because the MRI shows everything is normal. Since I am still having pain and weakness, this could means there may be some micro tears or something that is causing this chronic irritation in my shoulder. He said that could get my shoulder scoped 3 months to 5 to 10 years from now, it really just depends on my pain level and threshold. I thought of eventually having surgery on my shoulder scares the living crap out of me. Because they really haven’t figured out what is causing the pain and the fact that I need to get cut open just for an exploration trip leaves me with an unsettled feeling. I might to get a second opinion on this….

Even though this wasn’t the worst news in the world, it wasn’t the best news either but I am glad that I’m getting “some” closure with this injury. I now know that this pain is my new normal and I will need to find alternative ways of pain management. I really hate taking pills, especially for pain. I fear getting addicted to them plus the do not play well with my stomach.  Furthermore, I now know surgery for my shoulder is inevitable. I don’t know when but it will be in the back of my mind… Since it looks like I will not be doing any handstand push-ups or pull-ups soon, it is time for me to start thinking about what moving forward is going to look like for me. The weather is getting warmer, so I definitely look forward to getting out of the road. I’m not sure if running a marathon will be in the cards this year but I can at least start-up C25K and see where that takes me. I don’t know what the future holds for me but I know one thing… I’m not giving up on this journey nor my goals. I will continue to defy the odds…

Happy Motivational Monday! Today’s quote is

“It is better to take many small steps in the right direction than to make a great leap forward only to stumble backward.”

― Louis Sachar

**Written on 3/9/15**

This morning, I was awaken by the birds chirping and the sunlight beating on my face. I reached to grab my phone off the nightstand and look at the time. It’s 5 AM and I had a choice… Do I turnover and put the cover over my head for a couple more hours of shuteye or do I choose to do something different? As I rubbed the crust from my eyes, something told me that it was time… It was time to set out and put feet to pavement.  No matter for how little time, I had to get outside today. I had no reasons not to; the weather was warmer than normal, I was up earlier enough that I could do it and still get to work on time. Therefore, the only thing that was stopping me was myself… As I laid in the bed, I tried to figure out a valid excuse for me to continue to laying there. However, I could not find one. There were no outside influences, just me. Sometimes you are the only person standing in the way of your success. I sighed deeply and I said to myself let do this. I took a deep breath and sat up, and turn my body so that my legs are hanging off the bed. Then scooted myself off the bed onto the floor. As my feet landed on the ground, the bed made a loud creak, waking up the misses briefly. She asked where I was going and I responded I am going for walk. She said, okay be safe and turned over.

As a started to get dressed, so many thoughts ran through my mind… Still trying to find a reason not to go for walk, it felt like it took forever to find something to wear… I put on my jacket and turned on some music on my iPhone.  The first song that played was, Til I Collapse by Eminem… As I sat on the stairs tying my shoes, it seems like all the voices in my head seemed to be gone and it was only the music and me as I walked out the door.

I walked around the road in my condominium complex. The road is approximately a 1/3 of mile-long… As the music played, my head nods and feet hit the pavement. It felt familiar… It felt like I belonged out here. As I continued to walk around my condominium complex, I had seen six turkeys playing in the snow. As I got closer to them, I decided I would try to catch one. The turkeys flew away and I laughed in amazement because I never knew turkeys fly. After I stopped laughing I heard, “One mile completed,” in my headphones and I thought to myself it would be a good time to head home.

Once I got to the doorstep of my condo, I felt good… I was glad that I did not listen to the voices in my head today. Even though it was like pulling teeth to get myself out there and walk, I would not change anything about today’s experience. I would do it over just like this and even though I only walked a bit over a mile today, I know that it was a small step in the right direction. If I keep this up, I will be running again in no time.

Motivational Monday #2

Happy Motivational Monday! Today’s quote is

Progress is impossible without change, and those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything.

-George Bernard Shaw

Change is in the air!  Can you feel it?

It’s funny how time waits for no one. It feels like we were just saying Happy New Year, and planning out our 2015 goals and now we are three months in. How are you progressing on your goals? Are you starting to see progress? If, yes congrats! Keep fighting the good fight. If, not why? It’s time to reassess and change something. Here’s a question for you… Have you even started the journey to get to your goals? If, not. What are you waiting for? Before you know it, July will be here. Then October, followed by December.  If I put it that way 2015 is pretty much over… But isn’t that how it usually happens? Life gets in the way and the next time we look up three months has passed. I don’t want that to happen you. I want to be victorious and crush your goals.  Start your journey today…[divider]

Motivational Monday #1

Happy Motivational Monday! Today’s quote is

A goal without a plan is just a wish – Larry Elder

We all have things we want to do in life… Whether it’s losing weight, running a marathon, buying a house, or even starting a business. I come to you today to ask if these things are goals or wishes. Do you have a plan on how you are going to crush goals? If not, you are just wished upon a star. The chances that things you want to accomplish are just as bleak as hitting the Mega Millions or even getting lighting to strike while it’s snowing 7 times… It’s just very unlikely these things will come into fruition unless you are will to put in the effort to make a plan and then to execute it. Because a plan is no good without execution. I leave you with three words… Set. Plan. Crush![divider]

The Excuses Are Over

No ExcusesI am too fat…I’m too big to do that…I will always be a fat guy/girl…I’ve been fat all my life. Does this sound familiar?  Well, I am here to tell you that the excuses are over! See we make excuses to protect ourselves from failure… My question is what’s wrong with failing? What’s wrong with giving your all and falling flat on your face?

Hell that’s what makes us human… We try, we fail, and we try again… Think about all the things that we take for granted… Fire, light bulbs, internet these are the results of someone trying and failing, hundreds or even thousands of times.

I know what you’re saying… I know failing hurts but being fat and not chasing your dreams hurts much more…I’m going to be real with you… The car accident hurt like hell… Do you know what hurt more than the car accident? Being close to my goal and having to start from the beginning.

The car accident taught me many things but the thing that really resonates with me is we only have one life to live… Why not live that life being happy; or at least working toward goals that really matter to you? If you want to be a runner, start running… If you want to be a triathlete, train for it… If you want to a pole dancer even though you’re over weight…

well do it… There are no more excuses! I saw this video last night and it’s the epitome of if you put your mind to something, get out of your own way and be ok with failing once and awhile, you can do anything that you want to..

What do you think of this post?  I really would like to have your feedback, leave a comment below!

Motivation Monday: Invictus

Motivation Monday

What’s up goal crushers! If you are looking for some inspiration check out one of my favorite poems. It’s called Invictus  by William Ernest Henley

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.
