I Am Funny Shirts Review/Giveaway

I love when t-shirts have funny or clever sayings on it. Especially when it has to do with running! So I was excited when Matt from I Am Funny Shirts sent me a few of his funny running shirts to review.

Looking at the site I fell in love with just about all the shirts offered on the site, so it was tough decision to make. I when received the shirts and took them out their package I’m really impress on how soft they were and the design had a personal touch to them.

Wearing these shirts out and about I’ve gotten a ton of compliments like, “Where did you get that shirt from?” and “I run for bacon too!!” That last compliment was kind of corny but I take them when I get them.

I Am Funny Shirts

After doing a little digging on their site I found that all shirts are made in the USA and hand printed in New Orleans. They use 100% eco-friendly inks, dyes, and chemicals. It’s interesting to note that all the designs are actually dyed into the shirt so the design will not crack or fade over time.

They have shirts to meet everyone’s personality making them great gifts for anyone especially that special runner in your life.

The cool things that one lucky reader will get a t-shirt of their choosing see the raffle copter below.

Lenny & Larry’s Protein Brownies/ Cookies Review/ Giveaway Extravaganza

I first heard of Lenny & Larry’s products at FitBloggin’ 13 and right off back I was skeptic. I’ve tasted protein brownies and cookies in the past and they all tasted like card board to me. So at first I didn’t want any parts of it. Eventually I let my guard down and tried the triple chocolate brownie and lemon poppy cookie. The brownie was taste pretty good but the cookie was something amazing. I was stunned how it really tasted like a cookie and not like cardboard.

After I ate the cookie it was time for me to read the label and see what it cost me in calories. At first glance I thought to myself this is not bad… It’s had protein (of course!), some vitamins, nutrients, and it’s all natural.Additionally there was no high fructose corn syrup or sugar alcohols All of which is good in my book.

However there is always a caveat to every product. My caveat with the Lenny & Larry’s product is the serving size on the label. One whole cookie or brownie is two serving sizes. I mention that because when most people read the label of an individual package cookie/brownie they would think it is one serving size. This could get a little tricky if you are counting calories and you don’t play attention.

The Muscle Brownies comes in four flavors: Cookies & Cream, Triple Chocolate, Caramel Walnut and Peanut Butter and has 340 calories and 20 grams of protein per package. The Complete Cookie comes in six delicious flavors: Pumpkin, Oatmeal Raisin, Chocolate Chip, Peanut Butter, Lemon Poppy and Double Chocolate and has 190 calories and 15 grams of protein per cookie. The cookies are also 100% vegan.

Final Thoughts

Lenny & Larry’s have great tasting products and they are an excellent source of protein. My only caveat is the labeling of the individually wrapped package. I believe they should have put all the stats on the label as if a whole cookie/brownie is one serving size instead of two.

I would recommend this to any person who’s looking for a protein shake alternative. Since the cookies are 100% vegan I hear my vegan friends rejoicing as they enjoy a cookie.

I do have to mention that I haven’t ate any of their products since I went Paleo, which was a couple weeks ago.

So what do you prefer brownies or cookies? You decide!! One lucky winner will win a muscle brownie sample pack (4 brownies) & a complete cookie sample pack (6 cookies)! See the rafflecopter below for details.

Jaybird Freedom Sprint Earbud Review/Giveaway

Freedom Sprint

I received the Jaybird Freedom Sprint wireless ear buds in my swag bag for speaking at Fitbloggin’13.  Since the first day I put them in my ears, I just can’t find a reason to take them out.  The funny thing is that I never heard about Jaybird or their products until I went Fitbloggin’13.  Let just say I’m that glad that I was a speaker this year because these ear buds are life changing!

Freedom Sprint w 300 Pounds and Running

First things first… How do they Sound?

I use to be a DJ so I know a thing or two about sound… Though I’m not an audiophile I know what to look and listen for; some ear buds that I’ve encountered sound muffled when they are in my ear, some buds sound like you are under water. Well that’s not the case for the Freedom Sprint, the sound crystal clear and the bass is nice and warm. From Hip-Hop to audio books and everything in between they sound great with Freedom Sprint from Jaybird.

Are They Comfortable?

Another reason why I haven’t put down the Freedom Sprint is because how comfortable they are. When you initial put them in your ear can barely tell they are there. Even after wearing them for 4-5 hours they are still comfortable when most ear buds tend to hurt my ears.

While I’m Running…

I’m a big guy, so when I run the vibration travels throughout my body causing ear buds to fall out every mile or so. The Freedom Sprint actually stay in my ears while running thanks to their secure fit feature these buds stay in place.

Some Caveats…

Button Placement

The button placement is one of those little annoyances of a great product. The right ear bud has all the controls the top button is the play pause and answer phone calls and the two little buttons on the side are for seek and volume.

When you put the buds in your ear the controls face to the back of you while the charging port faces the front.  The problem lies when you are trying to press on the volume and seek button with you thumb while your index finger has to hold the ear bud in place. The buttons are stiff to press and using your thumb to press those tiny buttons becomes difficult.

I would love for Jaybird to switch the placement of charging port with the buttons, so that you would be able to press the buttons with your index finger while holding the ear bud in place with your thumb… It seems more natural that way.

Sweaty Cord Problems…

My second caveat that I have with Freedom Sprint ear buds is the cord that connects the two buds together. When I run I sweat like a pig and the cord sticks to the back of my neck.  Occasionally when turn my head, it cause the cord to tug on the ear bud a bit. It’s nothing major, just one of those little annoyances. I wish the Freedom Sprint came with something to hold the cord in place behind your head like their Blue Buds X…

To Sum It Up…

The Freedom Sprint wireless ear buds from Jaybird are an exceptional pair of buds. They sound great, they are comfortable, and they stay in your ears while running. Besides of the little caveats that I have mention above, the Freedom Sprint ear buds are something that I would recommend to my friends.

In the spirit of my 1 Year Blogging Anniversary Celebration going this month, I’m giving all of loyal readers a chance to win a pair of the Jaybird Freedom Sprint… See the Rafflecopter below for details.

Saucony Virrata Review

When I first received these shoes I was very skeptical. I must admit it’s because I’m a Nike fan boy, every pair of shoes I have own has been Nike. So when I initially tried on the Saucony Virrata I really wasn’t that enthusiastic. At first they felt funny on my feet but I decide to give the a fair shot, so after running in them for 50 more or miles here are my thoughts.

Saucony Virrata review

The Saucony Virrata has a “zero drop”, which makes this technically a minimalist shoe. I find this odd because when I think of a minimalist shoe I think no cushion however the Saucony Virrata has lots of cushion. The best way to describe what the Saucony Virrata is like is to imagine that a neutral running shoe and a minimalist shoe had a baby; viola! You have the Saucony Virrata. Now back to the review… Initially it took me a while to get use to these shoes. I pretty much had to change my stride and start landing towards my forefoot in order for them to feel comfortable. But once I got that done it was smooth sailing. The Saucony Virrata is very lightweight and they feel durable. The ride felt decent up to the 5 mile mark. Anything after 5 miles in these shoes my heels would start to hurt something that has never happen in my Nikes. I would consider this shoe for runs up to 5 miles which is a distance that I run the most.

I would recommend these shoes to anyone would like to try a minimalist running shoe before really going all the way minimalist. Also to anyone who’s working their way up to a 10k but any distance after that you might want to look for an another shoe as it gave my problems for the longer distances, but that’s just my two pennies. If you have any experience with Saucony Virrata, be sure to leave your thoughts below.

Polar FT40 Heart Rate Monitor Review

Polar FT40 HRM Review

First I must say that I never thought of Polar heart rate monitor as a consumer product. I have used their straps plenty of times in the professional and academic settings. From undergrad when we wanted to track the heart rate of a person as they worked out and a 12 Lead ECG wasn’t needed; to currently using it in the lab on the project that I’m working on. Truth be told I didn’t know that Polar had consumer products until recently. I just looked up one day and everybody had one, including me! Last month I was super excited when Polar sent me their FT40 heart rate monitor.

When I first opened the box was I a little intimidated, even though I’ve used their products other people. I felt like I was the one that was going to be in the experiment.  After toying around with it for a couple of days, the one word that best describes the Polar FT40 heart rate monitor is EASY! The first thing that I liked was the manual was only 5-8 pages long, which made for an easy read. It took me about 30 seconds to get the watch fully function, which made for an easy setup. The FT40 has nice big numbers, which made for an easy to read display. The Ft40’s main feature the energy pointer always showed if I was fat burning or fitness training, which made it easy to target my intensity. The FT40 kept a log of all my sessions, which made it easy to track my progress. Lastly the FT40 has a smart calories feature which has been validated to be the most accurate estimation of calories burned commercially available, which made it easy for me to know that the calories I burned are accurate. See everything about the FT40 is easy.

I’ve had the Polar FT40 Heart Rate Monitor for about a month now and it’s amazing. I take it on my runs and when I’m doing CrossFit. It has the potential to be a staple in my workout regimen. However I have one main caveat that stopping it from being a main staple in my regimen and that’s the strap. I’m 6’2, 300 pounds, I’m bigger than the average man and sometimes the strap is uncomfortable for me. I have to adjust the strap to make it the longest that it can be and it’s on my jelly rolls very snug. Add in the fact that my rolls move and jump around when I’m running and that will equal a tight, twisted polar strap cutting into my fat. This doesn’t happen all the time but when it does, I have to stop and take off the strap. However this shouldn’t discourage anyone from checking out the Polar FT40, it’s just a reminder for me how much I got left in this journey.

All in all I would give this product an 8.5/10, the product is very easy to use and Polar has a great track record. However I’ve found the strap to be uncomfortable at times and that mainly because it’s not long enough to fit me properly. I would recommend Polar FT40 Heart Rate Monitor to anyone that is looking for a quick and easy way to know if you’re burning fat or improving fitness. You can get these on the Polar website for about $180, I’ve also seen them on Amazon for about $100. This is definitely an investment for your health in fitness.

MaxFlow Stay-Grip Athletic Crew Socks Review

Max Flow Socks

**In Lil Jon’s Voice***MaxFlow Socks! Socks! Socks! Socks! Socks! Socks! MaxFlow Socks! Socks! Socks! Socks! Socks! MaxFlow Socks! Socks! Socks! Socks! Everybody!

The day before my 10K, a pair of MaxFlow Stay-Grip Athletic Crew Socks came in the mail for me. I thought to myself what perfect timing; I will wear these socks to the race and review them.

MaxFlow Stay-Grip Athletic Crew Socks Review

My initial impression of these socks taking them out of the package is “Wow these socks are heavy!” No silly! Not heavy as in weight but heavy as in heavy duty, these socks feel like I can wash and wear them numerous of times and they won’t get holes in them. I also like how the sock has extra cushioning throughout the sole to the heel.

When I put them on for the first time, I notice how well they fit, they were snug but they didn’t cut off my circulation like other socks that I’ve tried. By the way did I tell you how comfortable these socks are? No how comfortable are they Matinus? These socks are so comfortable that I forgot that I was wearing new socks until my girlfriend ask me asked me about them right before the race started. Here’s the thing I rarely wear crew socks, because I have big calves and they tend to stretch the elastic causing the socks to droop around my ankles like leg warmers. Well there are no drooping leg warmer socks with MaxFlow Stay-Grip Athletic Crew Socks; they were in the same place after my race as they were before my race. The Stay-Grip technology really works! My only complaint that I have about these socks right now are they do not come in black. For my personal taste I prefer black socks over white because I can never get white socks back to their original color after one wear but I digress.MaxFlow Stay-Grip Athletic Crew Socks Review

I would recommend MaxFlow Stay-Grip Athletic Crew Socks to anyone who is looking for an ultra-comfortable, super durable sock that actually stays up. I’ll give these socks a rating of 8.75/10.Until Next Time I’m 300 Pounds and Running***The opinions I have expressed in this post are my own. Other than receiving a pair of MaxFlow Stay-Grip Athletic Crew Socks for the review, I was not compensated.***
