Black People Don’t Run For Fun!

It’s been about three weeks since I start training and the word is getting out that I am training for a marathon. I’ve been getting questions from family and friends like: “How did you get into running?” I usually respond, “To get this weight off of me because I never seen an obese long-term runner.” Then they ask, “Why not swim or something else?” I respond, “I chose running because I don’t need a gym or anything. I just need a pair of good running shoes and that’s it.” They usually respond, “I find that odd because black people don’t run.

Run Back Home!

I’m back from my mini-vacation in Detroit. I decide to take today’s workout to the treadmill in the club house of my apartment complex. My workout took forever to complete, I could feel myself slowing down on the treadmill my body wanting to stop while my mind telling me to keep going, I’m gasping for air. This is the battle I face every time I run. Eventually I hear “Workout complete!”

Running at the RAC

Today I went to the RAC (Romulus Athletic Center) with my girlfriend’s father. It’s a local recreation center with tons of muscle heads walking around. The track is located above the gym, each lap equals 1/10 mile. As noted in my last entry running on flat land is amazing compared to the hills/mountains of Connecticut. My run started off pretty good then all of a sudden three walkers took up all of the lanes.

Today I ran at 8:30 am, which is later than my usual 6:00 am run, after a 12 hour drive from Connecticut to Michigan I guess I can give myself a bye for running later than I normally do. It felt good being in my hometown seeing friends and family and running on flat land of course! 🙂

I decided to run two days in a row so I wouldn’t lose any motivation. I’m still getting use to this whole running thing. I definitely don’t have that burning desire to run. But I went through that whole ordeal to get the shoes; I might as well get my money’s worth.
