Run After Pneumonia

Run Recap

According to my Nike Running App, It’s been 5 weeks since I ran. Well not anymore! I’m officially off of antibiotics, I can take a deep breath without hacking up a lung, I’m no longer coughing randomly, and I survived a CrossFit WOD. I think it’s time to go for a run. Yes 300 Pounds and Running is finally going running…let me bundle up and let’s go.

As I left my apartment I felt a little nervous, a little unsure, a little maybe I should wait another day or week or so …Naw! It’s time to get out there NOW and run. It’s about 40 degrees outside and I’m dress like it’s 40 below zero. Hey what can I say, I don’t want to jinx the pneumonia thing. Anyways I really wanted to start out slowly, so I did day 1 of Half Marathon Trainer Pro – Run for PINK; it consist of a 5 minutes warm up, then run 3 min/ walk 2 minutes repeat 7 times and a 5 minute cool down.

The first interval I sprinted as fast as I could, I don’t know why; I thought I was superman or something…Yeah that was a bad Idea…I remember slowing down and gasping for air, thinking to myself, “What the hell are you doing ? This is your first run since having pneumonia.” I’m super eager to get back running. However my mind and body are not on the same accord. Gee! I hate when that happens.. I took the fifth interval in order for me to find my pace. My shoulders were relaxed, I had a slight lean forward and it’s finally feeling right…Once I got into the groove, the workout was done. It was bittersweet because I was happy that I found my stride, yet sad that it took me until the end of the workout to find it… Oh well better luck next time, I’m slowly but surely getting back into the normal. I know it’s going to take some time… that’s coming from my body. However my mind wants to go out and run a 10k tomorrow; my mind got another thing coming because my body is not having that. Either way I’m glad to be running again.

Until next time I’m 300 Pounds and Running.

Getting Back to Normal (CrossFit After Pneumonia)

Buddy Up

Lately I’ve been struggling to get things back to normal. December has been a rough month for me. I slowed things down when finals week came around. During finals I ended up getting pneumonia and things really slowed down to snail’s pace. Well last Friday that finally ended, when I went to my first CrossFit class since pneumonia. Let me tell you it felt good to be back in my box. Everyone was excited to see me back. Asking me where I have been, they miss me. I responded with “pneumonia,” their response was, “Oh yea that will take you out of the game.” Anyways I looked at the WOD board I said to myself, “this is going to be interesting,” it was a partnered WOD. I ended up partnering with a guy named Ben; I’ve seen him in the advance classes. The average person would would be intimidated, because he was probably this fittest in the classes, but I really didn’t care. I told home I’m planning to do everything, but I might need breaks in between workouts… I might be slow but I’m always going to finish…

3, 2, 1 Go! Let the WOD begin! 5 minutes later I’m gasping for air… Damn I can’t breathe! Push, push, push, one more, one more, one more. That’s what I told myself as I mulled through the workout out. Everything was semi smooth sailing until I got to those Over/Unders…for those who don’t know what over/unders are … It’s when your partner get on all fours and you jump over them, then they plank and you crawl under them.

It might sound simple exercise but the jump and crawling aspect wore me out! It got to the point where I stop jumping and started to step over him (Hey you gotta do what you gotta do!) I kept pushing and we ended up finishing first. This is odd because I usually finish last every CrossFit class. That was an added bonus what I was really excited about was finishing my first CrossFit class since having pneumonia. I feel like I’m just about back to normal I have to see what my first run will be like…Anyways I’m excited to be back.

Until Next time I’m 300 Pounds and Running.

Don’t call it a come back!

AH Yeah! Guess who back….back again! 300 P.A.R.’s back…back again. Guess who’s back…Guess who’s back…Guess who’s back…Guess who’s back…Yes I’m back!

Let me tell y’all something this has been a long and crazy December. Finals, papers, group projects, and presentations…OH MY! Yea if I had a ledge I would have jumped…I’m just playing. I don’t want anybody to think that I need to be on suicide watch or anything. The mess up thing is that after I finished all my finals, papers, and projects; I ended up getting pneumonia… That was crazy because I thought the only people who get pneumonia are babies, old people, and people in the hospital…I was wrong about that!  Your boy was dead to the world for about a week and a half. I spent most of my days in the bed watching Netflix. I ended up watching at least two seasons of 24. Anyways I’m not quite fully recovered, I still have about 4 days of antibiotics left to take…I think I’m functioning at about 85% so the end is near. I want to say thanks to those who follow me on Twitter and Facebook who sent me all types of well wishes….I really appreciated them…I tried my best to respond to everybody but the meds had me in a different world. So this is me saying thanks!  It’s great to be feeling back to my normal self. It’s time to go back to regular plan…

Y’all now I keep it real…so I gotta tell the truth and say that I haven’t gone for a run in while and when I say a while I mean Thanksgiving. Yes I haven’t ran since Thanksgiving…Things have been crazy and I know I can’t use that for an excuse…I need to get butt out there ASAP and run a mile, 5K, or  something… I’ll keep y’all posted on whatever I decide to do.

Until Next Time I’m 300 Pounds and Running.
